The recent Information Fair organised and held in tandem with Woodford Schools Easter Fair was a huge success.

Services attending were:

Behaviour Support Team, Job Centre Plus, Children’s Information Service, Devon Law, Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, Devon Fire and Rescue, Elfordleigh Oasis Leisure, Extended Services, Heles School, Schools Library Service, Parent Partnership, Rascals Day Nursery, Ridgeway School, Road Safety Team, School Nurse, St Johns Ambulance, Woodford Preschool, Working Links and Devon and Cornwall Probation.

Comments from the services attending included:

Thought it was a great event—good networking as well as meeting with parents. What lovely children! Please make sure you invite us to any future events. Perhaps try to arrange during summer so it can be set up outside, to catch parents before they pick up their children. Good range of organisations Enjoyed meeting people from other agenices. Liked music in the background and the informal atmosphere. Parents found the wide range of information at hand useful and felt it was well supported. Brilliant to see all the different stands with a wide variety of professions.

It was very helpful seeing the family support service and finding out about working tax credit.

I picked up some useful leaflets on safe cycling.

Catherine Evans has now been in her role as the appointed Parent Support Adviser for Woodford Schools for over a term now. She has a meeting room at the Infant School and her office base is at the Junior School.

Aims of the Parent Support Adviser:

To encourage parents to come into the schools, share ideas with others or just have a chat Coffee mornings/afternoons for parents to get together Provide a listening ear and advice on things that matter to you Organise activities within the schools for parents, carers and families Questionnaires, to find out what you think and would like from the schools Leaflet information for all Information on transition through the school years Providing information on secondary school choices
