The Infants School
Woodford Infants School is situated in the Plympton sub-urban district of Plymouth, which is a mainly private residential area with a small council estate.
The school occupies a large open site which it shares with the Junior school and Rascals Nursery. Due to its popularity the school also takes children from surrounding localities that are of a more varied social mix than Woodford.
The premises were built in 1961 as an overspill to the Junior school when the estate grew. The buildings have been developed over the last few years resulting in much better facilities. These include a Foundation area, ICT suite, indoor toilets, resource/work area and two new classrooms. The extensive school grounds provide an attractive stimulating environment and they are used widely within the curriculum. There are two playground areas, one of which is marked with games, a grassy area with trees and willow arches and a pond/environmental area is currently being developed. There is also a large playing field and wooded area which is shared with the Junior school.
The Junior School
At Woodford Junior School we are fortunate to share a large and interesting site with the Infant school and Nursery Unit. The main school building was completed in 1957 and received an Architects award for its design.
There are eight classrooms in the main building with a further four temporary classrooms. We have an excellent hall with a separate dining area and each classroom is light and spacious. Our outside facilities are tremendous and include two playgrounds, a wooded area and large field. The school has recently developed a Quiet Area and we have plans for further improving our school environment. Currently there are 302 pupils in school.
The classes are arranged as follows:
Two Year 3 classes
Two Year 4 classes
Two Year 5 classes
Three Year 6 classes
